Responsible Fibre trademark guarantees that the product meets the industry’s most demanding environmental and social responsibility criteria verified by a third party. The trademark meets applicable guidelines for ISO 14021 (Principles of self-declared environmental claims). Paper products carrying the Responsible Fibre trademark need to fulfil the following criteria.

Sustainable forest management and land use	Certified fibre (FSC™ (FSC N003385) or PEFC (PEFC/02-44-41) certification) Forest Action Programme in place to promote sustainable forestry Biodiversity programme in place to safeguard plants and animals
Low emissions from production processes	Produced in accordance with Best Available Techniques (according EU’s BAT references for paper) Where applicable, EU Ecolabel certification (regional ecolabel) Ambitious emission reduction targets for 2030
Transparent performance	Third party verified, publicly available environmental product declarations and carbon footprint information (UPM Certificate Finder)
No use of harmful substances	Third party verified, publicly available Product Safety profiles We comply with global and national chemical and product regulations and minimize the use of harmful chemicals for human health, environment, and safety (Chemicals and Pigments)
Certified environmental management systems	ISO 14001 EMAS report with verified environmental and societal information
Safe and encouraging working environment	Safety rules and targets in place aiming at continuous improvement in safety and no fatalities or serious accidents UPM Safety Induction in place for employees and suppliers Employee health and wellbeing programme in place
